FTP access via My Computer (Explorer)

You can also access your FTP site using My Computer (Explorer). The tutorial below is a quick outline of how you can do this. You may notice some trivial differences between how our screen shots look compared to how your computer is setup. The purpose of this document is to demonstrate the idea rather than a set of ridge rules.

Explorer is far from the best way of connecting to the FTP server.

Basics

To gain access to your FTP site via explorer you will need the following basics:

  • A computer with Windows installed

  • A connection to the internet (and you will need to be connected)

  • If you have a firewall installed you will need to allow FTP access through, if you don't know how to do this then you will need to become familar with your firewall software first.

The first step is to open My computer, any directory will do.

The juicy bits

Now comes the fun bit, to login please enter in the following in your address bar:

ftp://username:password@home.acenet.net.au

Where 'username' and 'password' are your specific login details.

Don't have an address bar, look here for details

Once you have connected you should be able to access your website via explorer. From here you can access your website's files as per normal (ie. cut and paste, drag and drop, lick the monitor, how ever you choose to manipulate files and directories).

Thats it.

If you can't connect through please check your username and password. If you find this process hard to control or you can't up load all of your files please consider the following tutorials for more details. FTP Info
